1. New information desk at Limona

On February 26 the day had finally arrived: the new information desk was installed in our old building (Limona). The previous desk no longer met the library’s operational requirements. Ergonomics, accessibility, and efficient workflows were therefore central to the planning process. At the same time, the desk now meets the specific requirements for handling sensitive collections, such as our special collections and artist books.
The planning process began as early as 2024 and was supposed to be funded using 2025 budget allocations. Special thanks go to BiblioLenk for the execution of the project, as well as to the Department of Building Management at the Bauhaus-Universität for the successful collaboration in bringing this project to fruition.

2. Photo Exhibition »7 Blicke« - on display at the library through April 16

How do Bauhaus University students perceive the city they study in?
Seven students from the »Mittendrin« project (AWO Regionalverband Mitte-West Thüringen e. V.) set out to rediscover Weimar through a lens. Led by artist Narmin Zey, the group began their journey at the heart of the Bauhaus University campus, following the path into the Park an der Ilm. This two-part photowalk was an exploration of the overlooked. Moving between striking architectural lines, nature studies, and intimate close-ups, the students documented their own process of navigating the city. The exhibition brings together these diverse viewpoints - from the structured environment of the university to the organic expanse of the Ilm Park. These are images of »arrival« inviting the viewer to see a familiar city through fresh, observant eyes.

3. »Durch Fotografie keine Einsichten«: Book launch and exhibition starting April 23

»Durch Fotografie keine Einsichten« (eng. No Insights Through Photography) is a collaborative project between inmates at the Chemnitz Correctional Facility and students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It explores the question of whether it is possible to shed light on the lives and work of incarcerated women beyond outrage, sensationalism, and voyeuristic gazes. It approaches this question through the medium of photography. The otherwise hidden daily life within the Chemnitz Correctional Facility is brought to the outside world. The photographs capture moments, fragments, and nuances of everyday life in prison. They focus on the ordinary. It is the inmates who know the spaces, moments, and routines and who, drawing on their daily experiences, describe the world of the correctional facility.
The book accompanying the project has been published by Marian Arnd. It features the photographs, which are accompanied by statements from the inmates involved in the project - Anis, Moni, Chrisi, Pop, Löckchen, and Art - as well as texts by Susanne Koch (art therapist, Chemnitz Prison) and Pio Rahner (former artistic collaborator, Bauhaus University Weimar).
The exhibition of the book and photographs will be on display in the library foyer from April 23 to May 28. On Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m., the book launch and exhibition opening will take place. As part of the book launch, Luisa Hörning, Marleen Kölmel, Tarek Rishmawi, and Pio Rahner will discuss the project and their respective works. Ossian Osborne will provide insights into the book design. You are cordially invited!
