Clara now travels with the group of nomads. They avoid highways and prefer taking empty and narrow roads between settlements and small villages. Clara drives together with her new friend Jonathan. He drives a wagon he handcrafted on his own. It is relatively compact and could serve as a home only for two people but it has everything you may need. They sleep in hammocks in the back part of the car and stop at cafés and friends’ places to get some food.

Clara asked Jonathan why he does not live in one of the settlements and only stops there for a couple of days. He said that there he feels obliged to express individuality and open his soul to everybody. It may seem like a sustainable concept for living in such a community but it is not meant for everybody.
Therefore nomads, who appreciate free life, chose their current life. Moreover, only in this role one can observe and make statements about both extremes – living in a city and a settlement. Most nomads think that both of these concepts can provide a person with a fulfilling life. Their answer to this question is not much better but at least they don’t lie to themselves.

In three days they come to the settlement where they plan to stay for some time. This is a settlement of old nomads who do not want to travel anymore and try to find their a new home here in the mountains.

Most of them are still obsessed with collecting and improving vehicles, therefore the settlement is full of peculiar-looking wagons, bikes, and everything in between.

She goes out on the street and reads a public letter on the info shield:

“Votes on Saturday! Do you want our settlement to unite with the neighboring town?
The legal basis is ready and the town’s government expects that both sides will benefit from it. Now we just have to decide whether it is our future or not.

As you know, our settlement and the town nearby have partially grown together. This is a rare situation since the settlements were always grounded far from older cities and towns. In our case, our sides have found a good balance between supporting each other and providing freedom concerning how people exist in both communities. As an experiment, we want to show that the coexistence of such contradicting groups as ours is not only possible but also enables both of them to flourish and reach new milestones in the quality of its inhabitants’ life.“

Clara asks Jonathan why does not he stay here.
He answers that he indeed wants to move here but later. Soon he will organize a long journey to his friend in Turkey. He writes to Jonathan that a new settlement was grounded there, in which the inhabitants do archaeological researches in a near antic village, and he is very excited to be part of it.

As Clara heard about it she understood that she would gladly travel a couple of weeks more together with Jonathan. He had agreed to take her with him to Turkey and they started to prepare for the expedition.
Jonathan still needs to constantly explain to her all the small details about how to live as a nomad but she learns quickly. Clara cannot tell if being on the road is her thing but she definitely wants to try to live this lifestyle.
Days fly by and they have finally started the journey. Clara now has her own vehicle – she has taken the old bike in Jonathan’s garage and modified it to be more comfortable to ride under the baking sun of Turkey. As they move she notices the settlements they drive by and slowly acquires new connections in some of them. She is excited to be here with her friend nomad and to be part of this community as well. She already dreams about coming back to Berlin and telling about her journey to her family. She didn’t make up her mind yet whether she wants to stay in the city or not but she doesn’t want to hurry. This is an important decision that cannot come overnight. Now Clara is holding a wheel and she has other things to carry about.
