Sandra Guzman: El sonido del dibujo

Synopsis

El sonido del dibujo is a performance in which it is intended to alter the perception by seeing and hearing a picture at the same time. The performer is able to create sounds by touching every line of the drawing. The pitch of the sound changes according to the length of the line.

Technical Description

The technic depends on an circuit that connects the picture to a speaker. Every line of the drawing is made of graphite that conducts the electricity. to close the circuit the picture has some wires linked to the graphite lines. On the other side of the wires there is a battery, the speaker and an conductive metallic fingertip ring. This fingertip ring works like a variable resistance as soon as it touches the graphite lines. The current that controls the speaker changes according to the distance of the fingertip to the linked wires. The closer the finger is to the wire the higher is the pitch of the sound.
