Haus am Horn

Haus am Horn Inspired Entire Generation of Students

After its first extensive renovation from 1996 to 1999 by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Freundeskreis and restoration to its original 1923 state, the Haus am Horn was the location for numerous teaching and cultural projects before it was transferred to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The building became the centre of a multifaceted cultural exchange within the international community. For multiple generations of Faculty of Architecture students, the building has served as a source of inspiration for special projects and has motivated them to preserve modernist heritage. The hope and wish is that by integrating the building into the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, it will ensure that these experiences are not forgotten and can continue to contribute to current public discourse. The second renovation, which took place during the 2019 centenary year, was recognised by the European Commission and Europa Nostra, reaffirming the historical significance of this »incunabulum« of modernism and its relevance in current debates on history and ideas of modernism. The historic representation of early modernist utopia is a valuable reference model, especially today, for future generations of students.
