Newsletter 05.2025
1. BibSearch – now available in an app
In March 2025 the BibSearch Discovery System received a new layout and new search capabilities. Now the mobile version of the discovery system is available on Google Play Store and the App Store. In addition to familiar features like requesting, reserving and renewing items, the campus delivery service and creating favourites lists, the app also offers voice search. In the future we’re planning to implement push messages to keep you posted with upcoming due dates, reminders, reservations and news from the university library. As always, keep an eye on our newsletter.
2. Alumni talk № 33 with Anette Müller now online

Anette Müller was only 18 when she enrolled at the Weimar Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen (HAB) as a student of construction materials engineering in 1964. She early discovered the field of cement for herself, which has accompanied her through her professional biography until today. In a talk with library director Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, Dr. Anette Müller provides interesting insight into her life as a researcher.
The Alumni talk with Anette Müller continues the series of talks on the history of the university organized by the Alumni office together with the university archive and the university library.
3. Ephemera_l Encounters – Queer Ephemeral Archive in the Library – Call for Contributions!
As part of the course »Queering Spaces«, a queer ephemeral archive will be created in the University Library of Weimar for Campus Pride Week and Summary 2025. We are seeking artistic contributions that make queer knowledge and personal experiences visible. The works will be displayed in transparent acrylic boxes, entering into direct dialogue with the library’s holdings as forms of »lived experience«. Inspired by José Esteban Muñoz’s concept of »Ephemera as Evidence«, the project invites participants to move beyond fixed categories and linear thinking. Contributions may respond to specific books on site or reflect personal queer memories and perspectives. All materials must be suitable for the library environment (e.g. no liquids or organic substances) with a max. size of 32 × 22 × 10 cm.
Submit your contribution by 12 June 2025 as a PDF with a short description and an image of the work to Carsten Saeger (carsten.saeger@uni-weimar.de).
More information about the project soon on instagram.
4. Practical handbook »Praxishandbuch Inklusion in Bibliotheken« now out

»This book is a real innovation and a milestone!« – was the unanimous response to the first introduction of the practical handbook »Praxishandbuch Inklusion in Bibliotheken«, on May 20th 2025 in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. Demonstrating the need for inclusive libraries in a democratic society, it collects 52 articles by 82 authors that provide an engaging overview over equal access to information, education and culture for persons with or without handicaps and the necessary preconditions for same. The compendium is available in print and worldwide as the first accessible and Open Access e-book by De Gruyter/Brill. It was issued by the dbv commission »kundenorientierte und inklusive Services« (customer-oriented and inclusive services), chaired by deputy library director Katrin Richter.
