1. Library reopening and extended opening times

Starting July 20th 2020, the library building will be open to the public again. From Monday to Friday, 10am to 4 pm, up to 90 visitors at a time will be able to enter the library, browse the stacks and make use of our study spaces. We are especially glad to announce that periodicals will become available again.Access to the building and use of the desk spaces are subject to special conditions. Most importantly, visitors will be required to leave a form with their contact details in order to trace infection chains in the event of an outbreak. Of course, the general hygiene and safety measures remain in place as well.We’re very much looking forward to seeing you in the library again. However, in light of the current situation, we would still like to remind you to continually evaluate your need to visit the library, and to be aware of the information we compiled for you here.


2. Campus delivery – a new service for university members

Since July 13th 2020 the University Library has been able to provide requested articles to university members as scanned pdf documents. Regulations laid out in the relevant section of copyright law, the Urheberrechts-Wissensgesellschafts-Gesetz (UrhWissG, § 60e Abs. 5), apply, i.e. up to 30 pages or at most 10% of any one item can be supplied in this way. The campus delivery service as well as the associated research and scanning services are free of charge for members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Please trigger campus delivery requests using the online form. If you find an article on the discovery system BibSearch, a direct link to the form will be available.
You will receive the article as a download link with automatically generated login details sent to the e-mail-address you provide. The document will be available for download for 30 days, after which it will be deleted automatically. Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance.


3. filmfriend – one more streaming service on offer through the University Library

Starting on July 1st 2020 the University Library has further expanded its selection of quality online videos. The platform filmfriend, developed by filmwerte GmbH located in Potsdam Babelsberg, provides unlimited free online access to more than 2,000 films and TV episodes for university members. The selection includes numerous national and international TV and cinema titles, ranging from German classics and sophisticated documentaries to international arthouse film and kids‘ TV.
Our database information system DBIS provides you with further information and a link to the platform. Please note that while you will be able to browse the database from within the university network, you will have to log in via Shibboleth to watch any videos.


4. Bautabellen-digital: the online database for engineers

Since July 2020 The University Library has provided access to the current version of Bautabellen für Ingenieure (Schneider Bautabellen) online from within the university network. The 24th edition of this standard reference covers all relevant areas of study and practice and represent the current state of standardization.
You can access the licensed e-book from across campus, using our database information system (DBIS) to reach it. The online version is also listed in our online catalogue as well as in the discovery system BibSearch. University members may gain access from off campus by a VPN connection.


5. Further databases available under nationwide licenses

In line with the initiative to acquire nationwide licenses sponsored by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), access to two further databases has been granted from within the university network:

Market Research & American Business, 1935 - 1965
This database is built from the Institute for Motivational Research’s company archive and serves as an important resource for research about the history of American consumption and transnational marketing.

Gender: Identity and Social Change
This database focuses on sources from 19th and 20th century angloamerican culture about the history of the suffragettes and the fight for women’s right to vote, as well as feminism and various topics related to gender history.


6. Second round of the Weimar silent movie retrospective in September

Under the title »Overstimulation of the imagination«, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Stadtarchiv Weimar and the Lichthaus movie theater will look back on the year 1920 in Weimar cinema from Septemder 2nd to 10th 2020. Rare works that proved box-office successes exactly one hundred years ago will be shown in a silent movie retrospective based on the reconstructed screening schedules of local movie theaters »Scherffs Lichtspielhaus« and »Reform-Licht-Spiele«. Live soundtrack will be provided by internationally renowned musicians. Talks and panels with experts on film, culture and music as well as historic newsreels will anchor the films in cinematic cultural heritage from the city of Weimar’s perspective. Along with Dr. Simon Frisch, the University Library co-organizes the Weimar silent movie retrospective. Please find screening times and information on individual shows here.
