Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a first-level academic degree in an engineering discipline or environmental engineering-related degree programme, such as Geography, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, with a stronger emphasis on environmental issues

Any other certificates/degrees as proof of professional experience or completion of postgraduate degree programmes

Academic goal and professional profile

This course of study trains engineers who are responsible for designing concepts, planning and assessing urban infrastructure, overseeing material flow management and its corresponding process engineering.  Students are trained in cross-disciplinary thinking and gain detailed knowledge of the fundamentals, environmental matters, economics and social competence. The main areas of study include the supply and removal of water and waste, transportation systems, the energy sector, municipal facilities in general, urban and regional planning, social structures, business management, urban climate and ecology. Thanks to the broad range of courses, students can partly design their degree programme in such a way to form concentrations, by which means they can gain expertise in their subject of interest.

After receiving their bachelor’s degree, graduates may choose to enter the workforce to gain on-the-job experience. Naturally, they may also continue their studies and pursue a master’s degree.

The master’s degree programme can also serve as a postgraduate programme for graduates who hold a ‘related’ bachelor’s degree and/or who have already gained work experience. The examination committee regards degrees in Engineering and comparable disciplines as related.

Students in the bachelor’s degree programme are required to complete a 12-week internship before or during their degree programme.

Students in the master’s degree programme are required to complete twelve credits at a university abroad.

A master’s degree entitles the graduate to apply for admission to a doctoral programme.

Course of study

The course of study is divided into two levels.

In the first-level programme, students attain a bachelor’s degree in six semesters.

This is followed by a master’s degree programme, which students are expected to complete in four semesters.

Students are eligible to enter the master’s degree programme with a university degree in a different subject, e.g. Engineering.  This master’s degree programme features a wide variety of electives, with which students may design their degree according to their personal goals or wishes.

ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) is used throughout and greatly simplifies the process of evaluating and recognizing academic achievement attained at other institutions of higher education.  These credits confirm that the student has successfully completed the subject along with the required course work for the subject.
