Our intensive German programme »Deutsch in Weimar« offers an enjoyable and effective way to learn and improve your German language skills. Spend your summer in the city of Weimar and get to know its large cultural heritage and its importance in German history.
On this course you will join students from all over the world as you develop your German skills for use in a variety of contexts. Whatever stage you are at in your life, education or career, our intensive German course will enhance your CV as well as offers you a unique intercultural experience.

Accelerate your German language skills in the international atmosphere of Bauhaus Summer School!
The programme of our German intensive course combines an intensive German as a foreign language course in classroom teaching with practical training in small projects.
The morning classes deepen your competence in listening, reading, writing and speaking in German. The course helps you to build and expand your vocabulary, knowledge of grammar and phonetics and gives you loads of practice at communicating in German in a supportive and interactive learning environment. On top of that, during the whole course, you will be learning interesting facts about Germany, its people and culture. Depending on language levels and interest, you will also visit neighboring towns of Weimar, for example Erfurt and Jena, so you can experience the German culture firsthand.
In collaboration with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, we offer a supplementary feature: the museum project. This will give you the opportunity to practice your language skills on site in one of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar's museums, for example the art collection of the castle, the Park Cave or the Roman House. Join us on this journey of discovery, and improve your German and your cultural knowledge at the same time! We are looking forward to seeing you and wish you an exciting and rewarding summer!
You will immerse yourself in the German language during your time at Bauhaus Summer School, but it is not all classroom-based study. Benefit from our accompanying programme and take an opportunity of applying the language in the field! You can practice your German in a playful atmosphere of Gaming Nights. You can improve your listening comprehension and gain new insights into German culture by watching German movies or practice your conversation skills with your fellow students during excursions to Berlin or Dessau.
Our intensive German courses are designed for international students and graduates with the minimum age of 18 who seek an authentic experience and real immersion into the German culture and language. Most participants who join the course are 20 to 30 years old and come from all parts of the world. But everybody is welcome, regardless of age.
There are no prerequisites for participation. You can start your first German language course without any knowledge or you can perfect your current German language skills.
Courses are offered on all levels - provided that there are enough participants who have the language skills required for the respective level.

The Language Centre of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers German language courses all year round. The intensive courses in August always are a cherry on top. Language courses are taught by motivated and qualified teachers experienced in German as a Foreign Language. They work hard to make every lesson lively, interactive and highly engaging.
A committed and reliable tutor provides assistance to each class. Tutors know the city and the university like the back of their hands. The tutor is your contact person for any questions and assists you in finding your way around.
After successful completion of the language course you will receive a certificate of participation. It will show the course title, the date and duration of the course, the number of contact hours as well as the main contents and topics.
6 credit points (ECTS) after completion of the four-week course (100 h).
It is necessary to attend at least 80% of the course lessons to receive credit points.
Prior to your participation, it is essential that you clarify whether your home university will recognise the foreign credits you intend to earn.
If you do an extra work for example a presentation, a paper, etc. you can get a grade. Please talk to your teacher at the beginning of the course.
The course fee is 800 EURO.
