»Special Connection – Flexibility in Furniture and Exhibition Design«

Discover the hidden potential of soft connection Elements!

Connections of furniture and of exhibition elements are usually fixed, screwed or even glued. These rigid connections often conflict with their temporary utilisation - exhibitions are mostly dismantled after just a few days or weeks, and furniture for events is often just used for a couple of hours. Therefore, a rapid installation and dismantling of the elements as well as an easy way to store them is of major importance. Naturally, their primary functions for comfortable sitting and stability should work well, too.

Develop a system of stools, benches, tables!

In the part of the course dealing with practical tasks, we test a variety of materials (cable ties, ropes, cords, straps, textiles, and Velcro) and their constructive connection with simple wooden sheet material (MDF, chipboard). The participants work in small teams to develop a system of stools, benches, tables, and displays for an event during the Bauhaus Summer School. In this way, the developed elements can be directly applied and put to the test in a real-life situation.

A hands-on workshop

Working with their hands is paramount for the participants in the course. This means that ideas are sketched, drawn, directly built (1:1), and tested. This will not only be a lot of fun for the participants but will also ultimately be the best way to develop functional and aesthetic solutions.

Besides the creation of models and the practical experience with materials and construction, the participants get theoretical input regarding contemporary furniture and exhibitions design.
