Additional moduls: Understanding German Culture

Our additional culture modules offer you the opportunity to make the most of your stay in Weimar. During three intensive afternoons, you will immerse yourself in current topics of modern Germany in the company of experts. The exciting topics will help you gain a deeper understanding of German culture and society. You can attend the mini-modules in addition to your language or specialist course. Three of the modules are conducted in English. The module "Modern Literature and Society" is offered in German for German course participants.

Germany and Fashion

When you think of German culture it’s mostly cars, beer, technology, Lederhosen, and more cars. Fashion and Germany don't necessarily go together, or do they? In this module we’ll go beyond the stereotypes and take a deep dive into German culture through fashion, from world-renowned multibillion dollar brands to the sprawling design scene in Berlin.

In three afternoon sessions you will learn about the German fashion scene’s evolution over the past decade and its influence on the people's sense of identity in this country.

Germany's Position in International Geopolitics

Thirty years after the end of the cold war geopolitics is on the agenda, again. In particular, a new competition of political, economic and cultural systems between the US and China is becomming obvious. Here, geopolitics plays an imminent rising role. But what is the role of Europe in this competition and what is Germany's position - within Europe as well as in the world?

In three afternoon-meetings and seminars you will get an overview of Germaniy's role in current politics.

Moderne Literatur und Gesellschaft (Deutsch, B1/B2)

Die Teilnehmenden lernen anhand moderner deutscher Literatur (und ausgewählter Adaptionen) gesellschaftsrelevante Themen der Gegenwart kennen.

Neben gemeinsamer Lektüre und Rezeption wird es Raum für eine eigene kreative Auseinandersetzung mit den behandelten Themen geben (eigene Textproduktion, selbstgewählte Darstellungsform, Performance/Vortrag...). Dabei soll auch die Lust am Spiel mit der Sprache und dem Ausprobieren unterschiedlicher Ausdrucksformen geweckt werden.

Germany and Design: Sonja Kreuzburg, has worked as a Fashion Stylist and Consultant for magazines, celebrities, TV shows and commercials in Berlin since 2013.

Moderne Literatur und Gesellschaft (Deutsch, B1/B2): Simone Schwark, has an MA in Literature and has been teaching German as a foreign language since 2022

Germany's Position in International Geopolitics: Prof. Dr. Dr. Ralph M. Wrobel, Professor für Volkswirtschaftslehre, insb. Wirtschaftspolitik an der Westsächsischen Hochschule Zwickau

German Bauhaus: Dipl. Ing. Ronny Schüler

After completing a module, you will receive a certificate of participation issued by the Bauhaus Summer School. This contains information on the period, 2 ECTS and content.

Please make sure to clarify before your participation whether your performance will be recognised by your home university.

If you wish to receive a grade, you must discuss this with the teacher at the beginning of the course! Additional services may be necessary for this.

The course fee for one modul is 190 EURO 

Modules can be only booked in addition to another Bauhaus Summer School course.
