Longeur D’ondes – Prototyping the Radio of the Future

From February 5 to 8, 2026, the 22nd edition of the Longueur d'Ondes festival took place in Brest. With over 9,000 visitors, it is considered the largest Francophone festival for radio and listening. Prof. Nathalie Singer (Experimental Radio, Bauhaus University Weimar) and Roberto Paci Dalò (Usmaradio) participated with a listening workshop and an expert talk.

Workshop: Prototyping the Radio of the Future

Lead by: Roberto Paci Dalò und Nathalie Singer

The workshop explored how radio-making can once again become a social, political, or artistic practice that amplifies marginalized voices and questions algorithm-driven content. In a collective process, participants created a short radio composition from texts and music developed during the workshop. The workshop was open to everyone, from radio professionals to sound enthusiasts of all backgrounds.

Listening Praxis and Radio Art

Roberto Paci Dalò and Nathalie Singer offered exclusive insights into their current projects and research, developed at Usmaradio – Centre for Radiophonic Studies at the University of the Republic of San Marino and at the Chair of Experimental Radio at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Both institutions are deeply rooted in the history of experimental broadcasting.

In the final part of the talk, a sound work created collaboratively with the workshop participants the previous day was presented. This was followed by a discussion with the audience (Q&A).

With the support of the French Institute in Romania.

Program in connection with the 2nd edition of the Orizont Sonor Festival (Bucharest, September 2025).
