MERZ lives and how? MERZ uses the principle of transgressing boundaries, the abolition of artistic genres to create an expanded concept of art across all areas of design. At the beginning of the 20th century, Kurt Schwitters invented his MERZkunst in the spirit of Dada. Poems, texts, collages, assemblages, sculptures and, in particular, the cave-like buildings such as the MERZbau made Schwitters MERZ known. Through these, he spun his artist friendships and relationships intermedially and internationally. In the seminar "Contemporary MERZbau" we will test how intercultural ties between the origins of students from different universities can be combined with the artistic methods of MERZ art to create a three-dimensional sculpture. To do this, we collect and research our own environment and identity in the online section. With photos, drawings, objects, text particles..., we will exchange ideas in the auditorium and in the small groups. This material and knowledge flows into a concrete artistic exchange in the practical part. With plaster, wood... and the things, information and questions we have brought with us, we will build a MERZ sculpture together as a "Contemporay MERZbau" in Weimar |
