This course invites the students to understand cinema beyond the limits of the frame. Together we will explore the intermedial encounter between film [audiovisual], installation art [space], and performatives arts [body].
As time-based media technologies advance, the cinematic experience has been in constant transformation extending beyond the traditional movie theatre. Video, television, and computers are technologies that create different types of audiences; evenmore with today’s growing streaming platforms that introduce new viewing habits. Our goal is to find experimental narrative tools while learning from artists whose work goes beyond the border of one media. We will challenge existing notions of cinema as a passive consumption media, embracing the interactivity of digital technologies and experimenting with immersive techniques.
‘Breaking the frame’ also means addressing perspective beyond the dominant gaze of the traditional Film institutions. Queer, feminist, decolonial and ecological epistemologies are welcome in our discussions.
Let's meet to break the rigid canons of cinema and think together about intersectional experiences.
