This course shall show second and third semester Master Media Architecture students how to be able to tackle critical thinking and writing about Media Architecture, and how to apply such critique to their own semester projects, particularly in writing. These series of lectures and workshops will develop Media Architecture students’ ability to think critically, while learning to gain and understand an artistic and theoretical approaches towards critical writing. Students will learn how to dismantle and analyze Media Architecture works, into important contexts of critique. Understanding how to construct precise texts of research, that form critical arguments, that overall shall deal with how a Master student can importantly articulate their own subjective beliefs, and strong opinions into a well formed theoretical essay. Students shall also understand the important power of artistic writing, by experimenting with contextualizing theory. By learning how to gather other inspirational source material of visual and contextual context, to help build critical narratives, and form consistent flows of contexts. While workshopping how to break down and respond to certain theories, and debates, students will learn how to comprehend writing about complex theories, and subjects, by perceiving critical writing as an important ‘visual’ and theoretical supporter of their practical projects.
These series of lessons, debates, presentations and written assignments, are focused on supporting students to gain further confidence, when it comes to thinking/writing critically about Media Architecture as well as their own projects. Where at the end of the course, Master students shall be required to submit a critical/theoretical essay that indicates their ability analyze a Media Architecture based work, that expresses their own personal and artistic opinions, that can be importantly contextualized into a precise critical argument. Where final essays should be able to indicate the students ability to gather research, and supporting material for their argument, while responding towards a given theory / debate, that fundamentally places their critical analysis within a wider context. Final Essays should be clear, precise, well constructed and consistent, in the students capability to bring artistic approaches towards a texts flow and overall narrative, while simultaneously narrowing down their criticism as a theoretical analysis and response, towards contexts. |
