This intensive workshop series will provides students with an understanding of the creative and management skills necessary to generate audio-visual product and gives students a sense of the practical application of those skills. The workshop explores the general creative and entrepreneurial framework within which film producers operate and the specific means by which the audio-visual sector develops, finances and markets its product. It is anticipated that we will conclude with a participatory exercise at the EFM/Berlinale 2020, where students can observe the actual workings of the European Film Market - one of the top three meeting places of the international film and media industries. where producers, sales agents, distributors and funding agencies come network, inform themselves and do business. As the first international market event of the year, the EFM acts as a barometer for the film industry.
About Marina Hughes:
Marina Hughes is a lecturer, film producer and former lawyer based in Ireland. She co-founded and ran the production company Venus Productions from 1996 through which she produced films with BBC Films, Canal +, Gota Films, Irish Film Board, Miramax Films and RTE.
Her feature film productions have been presented and won awards from festivals such as: Sundance Film Festival , Seattle Film Festival, , BANFF Canada, Variety Critic’s Choice , Karlovy Vary Film Festival. London Film Festival, and many more.
She lectures at the Technological University, Dublin in Media Management and the Film Industry and is Visiting Professor at University Babes Bolyai ,Cluj, Romania where she teaches courses on Film Production and Marketing and also the Atelier Du Film, with the writer/directors Adrian Sitariu and Radu Jude.
Her Doctoral research at the Technological University, Dublin focuses on development finance and production of European film.
