There is the invention of a place in the inner city that restricts its citizens from free movement spatially, economically, politically and socially. And there is paternalistic urban theory and planning outcomes on how to achieve an orderly citizen who aspires social uplift and a middle-class lifestyle. Both shaped the modern metropolis of the 20th century. What comes after it? What is postmodern city planning in a setting like the U.S. based upon from a sociology perspective? Investigating how to achieve a good life for all in social housing transformations, the seminar will conclude what urban revitalization needs to be based upon in order to work: Spatial Justice (Edward Soja, 2010). This is a seminar conceptualized as mainly rigorous scientific text analysis, which is a skill that will be helpful for the students’ research projects in the next semesters.
