Urban Life beyond Growth: Discovering the Post-growth City - Einzelansicht

This seminar will offer insights, discussions and inputs for the furthering of alternative views and planning approaches for urban life after growth. It is motivated by the essential acknowledgement of the devasting effects of city planning based on the consumption of scare resources, political authoritarianism, lacking forms of self-realisation and cultural closure which is dominating today’s urban societies.

While theoretical reflections and many bottom-up projects are having pointed at a potential change of paradigms regarding urban life and urban planning, a further workout of proposals for a new perspective for cities in the light of the amounting challenges is still missing.

With this seminar, the necessary reorientation for thinking, writing, researching and projecting urban life beyond growth is intended to be taken. The seminar invites students form arts, architecture, and urban studies to join forces for creating a learning and cooperation platform for a post-growth Thuringia. Thus, one focus lies on combining creative and scientific techniques to record stories and ideas connected to the idea of a post-growth city.

The seminar consists of three parts. Firstly, a preparatory meeting for the theoretical debate on the post-growth city (24^th of April). Secondly, from 8 till 15^th of May, a joined workshop will be organised with students from our partner university in Jordan. This block consists in detail: participation in a conference on post-growth cities in Weimar (10 and 11^th of May), a joined visit of projects in Leipzig, and working one day with the Jordan students on a local case study. Subsequent to these discoveries, a conceptual, reflective and evaluative part on 14^th of May will complete the seminar.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende der Fakultäten Kunst und Gestaltung sowie Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus Uni Weimar. Des Weiteren begrüßen wir sämtliche Teilnehmer*innen der Konferenz Postwachstumsstadt (10./11. Mai 2019) einschließlich Politiker*innen, Menschen aus politischen Organisationen oder Stiftungen, Aktivist*innen, Mitglieder von Lokal- oder Stadtverwaltungen etc. Von der Bandbreite der Teilnehmer*innen erhoffen wir uns einerseits einen offenen und multiperspektivischen Austausch verschiedenster Akteur*e und andererseits interdisziplinäre, intergenerationale und diverse Zusammenarbeiten in Kleingruppen.
