Beschreibung |
Is art a research methodology? What kinds of work constitute artistic research? What forms of knowledge distinguish artistic knowledge from other forms of knowledge? What cognitive, social, and aesthetic processes are involved in the creation of research-based art? How do artistic research practices vary around the world? Is artistic research conducted for an audience? Does better research lead to better art? These are only a few of the questions to be unpacked in this introductory seminar that surveys the development of the field of artistic, practice-based research over the last 25 years. The course offers a variety of lectures, group exercises, and research assignments that should prepare students for the rigours of the PhD Programme. |
Bemerkung |
The seminar is designed for beginning PhD students. Advanced Master and Diplom students must apply with a short (1 page) motivation letter explaining their understanding of artistic research and goals for joining the class. Lectures and discussions will be held in German and English. Writing assignments can be written in the students’ native language (and translated into English or German). Only Master and Diplom students will be graded. PhD Students will receive a “Schlüsselqualifikation”.
