engl. Beschreibung/ Kurzkommentar |
The goal of the project is to experience the city of Weimar through a musical approach. According to the participants’ awareness and feelings about the city itself, we would like to propose a series of workshops during which we will perform outdoor walks and record the sounds of Weimar. We want to challenge the perception of the city using a modern artistic strategy, opening participants’ creativity to a different conception of the public space, providing them with skills in the field of digital sounds, throughout recording and editing. Besides this, the purpose of this proposal is to encourage an experimental methodology even without being skilled in the music field, on the other hand using sound as a way to develop one's senses and sensitiveness, creating a connection with the surrounding space faced in the daily life. As both of us have a music background (having played in the past years with different bands experiencing diverse genres of music), we would like to arrange a digital-music workshop opened to people with or without any kind of musical skill. We will use free digital applications for smartphones (like Garage Band) and open-source software for laptops (like Audacity) to edit sounds and create songs. The workshop meetings will consist in outdoor walks around Weimar to record the sounds of the city (nature, construction sites, urban environment, and unarticulated/articulated vibes) mixed with digital sounds created by means of the above-mentioned applications. Those meetings will alternate with training sessions in the seminar room of the MFA in Marienstrasse 14. Here we will merge and edit all recordings and finalize them into new songs that we want to broadcast through the Bauhaus FM radio. By that, we will convey a collective experience and return it to the public throughout the streaming radio channel. Also, in the end, our intention is to publish online the tracks produced during the workshops, giving people the possibility to listen and download them for free.
