|engl. Beschreibung/ Kurzkommentar
First of all, the ACTOR (artists and activists) who perform and act in the public space, is a vulnerable and normally the focus of public performances.
Second: Depending from the intervention in the AUDIENCE, the audience too, plays an important role in the scene and can turn into a co-producer of the performance.
Thirdly, the PUBLIC SPACE itself is a key factor for interventions and referring to Bruno Latour you can see the space itself as a social player in the game of the performance and in social situations overall. Referring to Hannah Arendt, the public space has a core role in society and is compulsory for an open democracy. Referring to her, the public space is placed opposite to the private space, which functions because of social exclusion.
During the workshop, we want to find out which roles and capacities, as well as dangers and problems, can be seen from the different perspectives (IACTOR/Performer, AUDIENCE and the PUBLIC SPACE itself). Apart from discussing and reading some important texts from Latour, Arendt and others, the focus is based on the direct action in the public space and the intervention itself.
Thereby a character of an exercise will be guiding the workshop. Thus, the aim is not to improve a perfect performance or art piece, it is about researching (about)the different roles (Actor, Public Space, Audience) of performances. Apart, the workshop wants to strengthen our awareness and self-esteem of being and performing in the public space (by doing and reflecting it in the secure zone of the group).
1. Session: Warm up and get in touch
The first workshop will throw us into the public space – we will get experience of being outstanding. For that, we will use methods of my personal practice.
2. Session: Trial and Error (2 Days)
We will start the second period with a theoretical reflection about our intervention in the public and will refer to texts from Erika Fischer-Lichte and Bruno Latour.
Apart we will start to collect and decelope your own ideas (using us as performers for trying the ideas). So, everybody suggests an idea and we will discuss it briefly and try out what works and what wont. The theoretical background will be, apart from others, the impro theater school from theatro nucleo, who will help us by reflecting on the interventions.
3. Session: Hybrid action and reflection (2 Days)
In the 3rd workshop we start with a reflection about the experience of the first two workshops and will develop all together a hybrid performance in the public space of Weimar, out of the previous experiences we already gained in the public.
For reflecting it, we will discuss it in the context of Hannah Arendt thesis of the importance of the public.
