Feeling like Cyborg? - Evaluating and Designing for Extended Perception
What is a cyborg? How does it feel like to be a cyborg? How to design (for) a cyborg? In this project, we address questions of how technology can extend our bodily perception and activities. That’s why we start the term, with a detailed research on cyborgs and related concepts, such as Oskar Schlemmer’s man-space-relationship or the extended mind thesis. Next to a literature research, we will also have a look on famous science fiction movies and related cultural areas (e.g. dance or theatre).
Before actually creating a cyborg, we need to understand and develop the individual concept design underneath. That’s why we try to focus on an iterative design process and qualitative research methods, starting with a requirements analysis, followed by testing first design ideas and functioning prototypes, ending with a final assessment of the project result. You will also participate in developing the design and technology.
Motivation to work independent and self-initiated is required!
