Curating Media Art – The Media Art Award 2018
This year, for the 11th time, the Media Art Prize will be awarded - an award for the final works of students in media art and design, which will be awarded during the ”summaery” by an independent jury. The nominated works will be compiled for an exhibition at the Galerie Eigenheim Weimar and will be made accessible to the public.
Curating media art – The Media Art Award Curating has become fashionable snd some sort of a mass phenomenon. Media art in particular is still a challenge in the viciousness of its expressions. We want to tackle these issues together! In the beginning of the semester, we will visit exhibitions during a Berlin excursion and find out their concepts. We will examine the question of where and how media art is exhibited today and get the necessary inspiration for the exhibition in Weimar. Of course, we will also visit the Galerie Eigenheim Weimar to give us an idea of the conditions of the site.
Then we will go straight to work: Which work should be shown? Will there be a curatorial leitmotif? Is there an accompanying program for the vernissage and the award ceremony? Which graphic appearance connects press texts, posters, readers and flyers to another? This list, what needs to be organized for an exhibition, what has to be done, is a long one, and depends largely on the ideas of the curators in collaboration with the artists.
This course will be guided by Konstantin Bayer, who is well experienced in curating national and international exhibition projects in connection with the Galerie Eigenheim Weimar/Berlin. |
