Interactive Costumes – Exploring Textile Sensors
We explore e-textiles and wearables in this course. The focus lies on the use of (inter)active costumes on professional theater and ballet stages. Interdisciplinary teams develop individual costume ideas with textile-able sensors. For this, we use e.g. flex sensors, force sensors or accelerometers. Furthermore, we will explore technologies like the LilyPad Arduino.
There will be a theoretical and practical introduction into the topic. The tasks and the content are versatile, they range from physical computing over interaction design to performance arts. During the semester, we will also deal methodologically with the users perspective. With the help of qualitative studies we will evaluate how well our costume prototypes can be used, how they affect the user and how we can further improve our ideas.
