This course delves into the fusion of text-based art and socio-political narratives and realities, words become portals to socio-political complexities. How does text-based practice embody transformative knowledge? Between artistic object and political action, how does this practice challenge personal, social and political authorities? What are the statements and positions we share and want to visible in the time of connected political landscapes?
The course through lectures and talks with invited guests, will introduce narratives, and subjective perspectives and experiences from the Syrian political context (the case study), the history of text-based art as conceptual art, and relevant approaches, mediums and techniques, which will be the starting point and the basis of themes for the participants to develop and address through their text-based graphics and/or multi-media projects towards the end of the course.
The course concludes with a showcase merging theory, practice, political awareness, and personal reflections. Participants will engage in workshops transforming theory, experiences and skills into tangible expressions, sparking critical dialogue and embodying collected knowledges.

Engaging with text-based art as a tangible embodiment of knowledge, enabling participants to explore the nuances of the political discourse, social narratives and subjective experiences, and through the project practical part, they will translate them into impactful art objects and political actions.
Methodological-Didactic Concept:
• Interdisciplinary: Including a dynamic interchange between theory and practice, creating a space where diverse fields converge to explore views on critical political context and text-based art's role as an embodiment of transformative knowledge.
• Talks with experts: voices share experiences, adding local and practical aspects to the discussions and the understanding of the topic, this will help broadening participants' perspectives on the political discourse, social narratives, and personal experiences and artistic approaches.
• Artistic Workshops: project production workshops (printing and graphics or other suggested mediums…) transform theoretical insights, experiences and practical skills into tangible artistic forms of expressions in which the participants will develop their subjective point of view, reinforcing the course's emphasis on text-based art as a medium of political action and knowledge embodiment.
• Discourse and Reflections: Creating a space of dialogue across cultures and viewpoints, fostering empathy, and nurturing critical thinking, during the course period and after while showing the project which serves as a culmination of the methodological-didactic journey, addressing text-based art, political discourse, social narratives, and personal reflections into a tangible testament of knowledge's embodiment through practice. |
