Lecturer: Dr. Vildan Seçkiner
The seminar aims at initiating discussions about the critical approaches to the urban gentrification processes in Post-Industrial cities, introducing the historical, theoretical and political context from an interdisciplinary perspective. Production of and resistance against urban gentrification will be investigated through a critical analysis of the imaginations of urban space. To this end, the focus will be discourses, conceptualization and images of post-industrial cities, as well as the practices of resistance against urban gentrification.
Contemporary theories, concepts and methodologies that influenced the critical analysis of urban space will be presented in introductory lectures. In each session, the introduced approaches will be illustrated through case studies and visual materials. Participants will be responsible for contemplating the case studies and concepts discussed during the seminar to engage in the imaginations of post-industrial urban space from a critical perspective, problematizing urban gentrification processes. |

| Leistungsnachweis |
After each seminar session, participants are expected to submit a reflection paper on the session (400 – 600 words). At the end of the semester, each participant is expected to choose a topic and submit a paper on it corresponding to the seminar discussions, and to hold a presentation (10 minutes) about their final work. |
| Zielgruppe |
The seminar is suitable for beginning and advanced students (both international students and German native speakers) with good English language skills. Lectures and discussions will be in English. Writing assignments can be written in English or German.
