MEMORY, FACES AND SPACES: A DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING EXPERIENCE Face-to-Face This unique course will give students the chance to do a full immersion in experimental documentary filmmaking. Detailed Description This course will guide students through the pre production, production and post production stages of documentary filmmaking. Students will work either in groups or individually and are expected to choose a subject or a place that they can experimentally portray in a short documentary video. The short documentaries produced in this course will be a testimony, a trip down the memory lane of the filmmakers’ personal history, exploring their ethnicity, cultural background, gender divisions, gender roles, etc. It will be an introspective art experience as well as a participatory filmmaking experience. Pre-production, production, post-production stages Students will be introduced to the theoretical analysis and practical methods of documentary filmmaking, will watch several documentary films and explore the preproduction, production and post-production processes and techniques for documentary film production. Voice overs can be used as well as interviews, ambient sounds and copyrighted music. This hands on production course will allow students to work with audiovisual story telling. Students will explore the relationship between memory, faces, experiences and spaces. They will develop and improve their creative storytelling skills through an experimental eye.
