This course will engage DIY strategies and contemporary prototyping technologies for the exploration, experimentation and conception of analog photographic systems. Students in this intensive, hands-on course will develop an understanding of the design and function of the photographic apparatus by studying, testing and building their own cameras. From camera obscuras to large format systems, this course offers foundation knowledge to candidates interested in how modern tools and processes such as 3D-printing, can assist repairing, repurposing, amending, adapting or developing entirely new analog camera systems.
Observant of the current pandemic regulations, the course will have complete independence from university photo-workshops and labs. Sessions will be held both online and in-presence, if/when the circumstances allow, with everyone’s health and safety as the priority.
*Course participants are encouraged to enroll in the course “Silver & Moonshine“ taught by Stephan Jacobs as candidates will have an opportunity to combine the use of their developed prototype cameras with theory and practical application of several historic photographic processes. |
