This course is supposed to be your first start into quantitative methods. By making use of your diverse study backgrounds, we want to scientifically test questions you wonder about in your field of study so that you are able to transfer the learned knowledge for future academic papers. We will learn step by step how to do empirical research: develop a falsifiable research question, formulate a conceptualization and a research design, use adequate methods, visualize your data and finally communicate your findings.
Therefore, the seminar is going to be a combination of an introduction to quantitative methods, pursuing your own research interests and learning from existing research conducted by our guest speakers.
The seminar can serve as a laboratory for new quantitative methodological approaches from all faculties. It offers a platform to exchange research questions from our field of studies (Urban Studies) and discuss them with questions you deal with in your studies. |
