Beschreibung

In this course we will break up the borders of dull templates that are overwhelming our World Wide Web landscape.
Learn how to create conspicuous interfaces to confuse the user.
Combine real world artifacts within the digital browser window; ranging from huge screens to small devices.

Web pages are infinite in proportions – try to think of the browser as a canvas. You don’t control the context in which your work is viewed – a computer and browser simply interprets the instructions you supply, and every browser interprets them slightly differently.
Webdesign as architecture – they are places, inherently public and can be inhabited; while some of them are already cultural artifacts.
Both buildings and websites are built realities. But can they be a part of the fabric of societies that are physical, but virtual?

Like buildings, websites foster social discourses. They do so by establishing new ways of interaction or by asking new aesthetic questions.
By bringing some kind of benevolence to the old new web we create spaces that everybody can visit from anywhere – hosted forever on GitHub.
We are not afraid of technical hurdles. Today, more than ever, we need individuals rather than corporations to guide the web’s future.

The class will explore the integrity of modern technologies and digital possibilities.
There will be surprise visitors from the industry as guest critics and lecturers.
We will have an introduction to the fundamentals of HTML and CSS. JavaScript will be our source of magic.

The works can be Meme inspired, political activity, a social network, dance pop subtitles, a cultural discussion platform, rap name generators, dating-game, a portfolio, funky online radio, a website that codes itself, an elevator to space, an big bang simulator, you name it.

Everyone can participate and does not require any knowledge in this field but curiosity.

The course will be held in English unless all participants speak German.
