There is another world. It is an infinite space, an endless playground, a cornucopia of possibilities. In this world, the virtual world, the relationship of the human body and the environment can be explored like in a laboratory. Everything that we can perceive when we play with virtuality oscillates between reality and fiction – this is what makes it so intriguing to work with this kind of digital media.
In our seminar we will focus on the spatial component of virtuality: Which environments already exist? What kind of spaces might be created and why? What is the role of the human body in these environments? What does the digital laboratory and our research tell us about non-virtual architecture (considering especially phenomenological theories)?
In an interdisciplinary approach (three teachers with different expertise, 15 students from three faculties, four external experts, mutual learning from theory and practice) we will think about architecture in computer games, play in spatial surroundings of existing games, and create own environments. |
