Formatting and Connecting the Inscriptions of Weimar's 'genius loci'
Following up to the lecture held in WS 16/17 on Weimar's ‘genius loci’ (i.e. the specific ‘spirit’ of its place) this semester's lecture extents its focus (in a media studies approach) especially to the formation stage of the Bauhaus concept established in Weimar after World War I. Weimar, which has been regarded as a paradigmatic case of a ‘genius loci’ constellation for decades, is understood in this lecture as an ensemble of embedded media formats. At the same time these formats can be regarded as operators shaping things into different modes of existence (Etienne Souriau). |
