Das Plenum erweitert die Lektüren zur Bürokratie in Richtung auf eine weitere medienwissenschaftliche Fokussierung und theoretische Fundierung – im Zentrum dieser Aktivitäten wird die Lektüre von Lisa Gitelmans „Paper Knowledge“ stehen (1); und in Richtung auf eine praktische und zum Teil experimentelle Erkundung der Existenzweisen von Formularen in Geschichte und Gegenwart (2). Das Programm umfasst Besuche in den Thüringischen Staatsarchiven in Weimar und Gotha, die gemeinsame und individuelle Suche nach alten Formularen in verstreuten Sammlungen und die medientheoretische Diskussion und experimentelle Ergründung von Formular-Modifikationen wie der Perforation, der Abheftung, der Duplikation sowie digitaler Formular-Formate. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf Formularen in der Geschichte des Bauhauses. |

Printed Forms – Writing on the Prefigured Ground
This part of the project seminar shifts the focus to more experimental approaches to bureaucracy and to a deeper theoretical conceptualization of bureaucracy. Documents, especially printed forms, as well as 'job printing' will be of special interest (with particular regard to Lisa Gitelman‘s seminal study on “Paper Knowledge” 2014). We will investigate the variety of document formats and the cultural techniques connected to these formats: perforation, attachments, duplications, digital forms, analogue and digital filings. Our program encompasses visits to the “Thüringer Staatsarchiv” in Gotha and Weimar, the development of research strategies regarding used forms in their respective environments (private collections, libraries, etc.), and collections of forms and documents of the Bauhaus.
