The contemporary architectural discourse places significant emphasis on the practice of reuse, whether it involves repurposing individual buildings or entire urban contexts. The inaugural ReUso BIP event, organized by the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences (DISA) at the University of Bergamo, Italy, is poised to explore this fundamental theme. This collaborative endeavor aims to foster scholarly dialogue concerning the conscious and sustainable re-use of the Built and Landscape Heritage.
Hosted by the University of Bergamo in partnership with esteemed institutions such as Riga Technical University (Latvia), Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), University of Enna "Kore" (Italy), and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Germany), this workshop serves as a nexus for interdisciplinary exchange and collaborative research pursuits.
Comprising a series of modules, the workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of various facets of reuse:
- Online MODULE1: Introduction to Reuse of the Built Heritage
- Online MODULE2: Reuse of Contemporary Buildings
- Online MODULE3: Reuse and Recovery of Infrastructures
- On-site LAB: The Fortress of Bergamo, Laboratory of Knowledge
Participants, especially those engaged in their master's thesis or preliminary research, are encouraged to delve into topics aligned with the central theme of ReUso within their respective research groups. They will have the opportunity to present the current state of their projects in Bergamo in July. Serving as both a catalyst and a companion to the thesis journey, the Bergamo workshop offers participants a platform to explore theoretical frameworks, practical methodologies, discussions, and case studies pertinent to sustainable reuse practices in architectural and urban/rural contexts.
Conducted entirely in English, the course provides participants with access to online lectures, discussions, site visits, and collaborative project work during the Erasmus+ trips to Bergamo (funded!). These activities are designed to deepen participants' understanding of reuse practices and their implications within contemporary architectural discourse. Additionally, a trip to the Biennale di Venezia and a social dinner will be organized, offering participants an informal setting for networking and cultural exchange. |
