Beschreibung

Since the beginning of time, humankind has been generating data. From cave paintings, to stories, to sculptures, to pictures, to social media posts, to the notion of the ‘quantified self’: our data generation has become faster, easier, and more ubiquitous. But what can we do with all this data? What to do with the data which we are generating ourselves in our everyday lives? And how can we represent this data?

In this project, you will be challenged to explore, visualise, physicalize (represent in physical form), and discuss data in our everyday lives. Guided by literature, this project will start with weekly data diaries, which will eventually evolve to the creation of data physicalisations using different modalities such as the visual, auditory, and haptic. Depending on the students’ interests, working with micro-controllers such as Arduino, Raspberry Py, or other kits might be an option for the realization, support will be given if needed.

Through a designerly approach, this project will explore the many variations in which data is present in our lives, how we can represent this data, and the potential consequences. This project is perfect for students who would like to be challenged to find problems and come up with their own concepts.
