The Bauhaus module ”Summæry Playground – Exploring and Shaping Student Event Spaces” focuses on the conception, planning, and realization of the Summæry 2026 opening event, as well as, optionally, additional student-led event projects. Students independently develop event formats such as exhibitions, performances, concerts, or interventions and collaboratively bring them to life. The course emphasizes the active shaping of spaces for student event culture, the connection between the university and the urban community, and the complete process from initial idea to implementation and documentation. Interdisciplinarity | The module is interdisciplinary in nature and open to students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. It brings together approaches from design, cultural management, dramaturgy, architecture, media, and technical practice. Artistic, organizational, technical, and societal perspectives are treated as equally important. Working in diverse teams fosters exchange between different disciplines, working methods, and cultural backgrounds. Topics such as sustainability, diversity, awareness, and the use of urban spaces are discussed from multiple disciplinary perspectives and explored through hands-on practice. Learning Objectives | Upon successful completion of the module, students will have acquired fundamental skills in the conception, planning, and implementation of events. They gain knowledge in event and project management, spatial and dramaturgical development, as well as in basic aspects of lighting and sound technology. In addition, they strengthen their abilities in teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and independent work. Participants reflect on the social impact of different event formats and develop an awareness of sustainable, responsible, and inclusive event culture. The documented project process further promotes analytical and reflective competencies. Didactic Concept | The seminar is based on project-oriented, practice-based learning. Workshops, input sessions, and guest lectures provide theoretical foundations that are immediately applied in practical work. The focus is on collaborative group work, where students independently develop and implement their concepts. Regular group meetings support the workflow. Critical reflection, feedback sessions, and documentation are integral components of the module. Instructors and external experts provide guidance and support throughout the entire project phase. |
