Beschreibung
Are you planning to write a research paper or dissertation and are asking yourself how to best go about it? Or, have you started writing, but are unsure of how to most effectively bring across your ideas and findings? Or, have you finished a draft and are wondering how to best polish it for publication?

If these or similar situations sound familiar to you, this online workshop is for you. You will learn how to best express yourself, what criteria a well-written academic paper in English needs to fulfill, and how you can manage the writing and publication process most productively.

The workshop consists of two parts; however, each part can be taken independently of the other as the two parts are designed to stand on their own. In this second part, we will focus on how to properly present an argument in a paragraph, how to formulate effective sentences, and how to revise a draft manuscript for publication. This second part also offers the possibility to discuss a small part of your text (which is entirely optional, though).

Workshop Content:

present and discuss your findings;

create powerful abstracts;

draft well-focused paragraphs;

apply the stylistic conventions of academic writing to your texts;

write clear and concise sentences in English;

connect sentences and link ideas to make your text flow well;

understand how Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT function and what that means for using them;

devise useful prompts for the use of LLMs;

evaluate text produced by an LLM;

overcome potential obstacles or anxieties throughout your writing process.

Course Organization:

While it is absolutely possible to participate in only one of the two parts, please note that you are advised to attend both parts as they together offer a comprehensive view of the requirements of academic writing and of how to overcome any challenges in the process of writing from starting to completing an academic text.

The first part will take place in the mornings of 27-30 May, 2026, and covers how to plan your writing, how to write a paper and its sections, and how to maintain a writing flow.

After completing the course, participants are also given the option of an individual online feedback session of about an hour with the course instructor.

Registration Deadline: 3 June 2026
Instructor: Frank Lauterbach
Date & Time:
17.06.2026 | 09 AM - 12:30 PM
18.06.2026 | 09 AM - 12:30 PM
19.06.2026 | 09 AM - 12:30 PM
20.06.2026 | 09 AM - 12:30 PM
Course language: English

Location

Online: You will be provided with the link to a BigBlueButton room.
