Are you planning to write a research paper or dissertation and are asking yourself how to best go about it? Or, have you started writing, but are unsure of how to most effectively bring across your ideas and findings? Or, have you finished a draft and are wondering how to best polish it for publication?

If these or similar situations sound familiar to you, this 2-part online workshop is for you. You will learn how to best express yourself, what criteria a well-written academic paper in English needs to fulfill, and how you can manage the writing and publication process most productively.

The workshop consists of two parts; however, each part can be taken independently of the other as the two parts are designed to stand on their own. In this first part, we will focus on how to plan your writing, how to write a paper and its sections, and how to maintain a writing flow.

Workshop Content:

Together, we will discuss important requirements for developing powerful English sentences, paragraphs, and texts that meet the expectations of readers, reviewers, and editors alike. Concretely, you will learn how to:

communicate professionally in English as an academic writer;

organize your writing process efficiently;

get started with writing your text;

overcome any writing block you might have;

define the focus and objective of your research paper or dissertation;

adequately structure paper (and dissertation) introductions;

discuss and draw conclusions from your findings;

develop your research paper (or dissertation) and its individual sections;

achieve coherence in your writing.

Course Organization:

While it is absolutely possible to participate in only one of the two parts, please note that you are advised to attend both parts as they together offer a comprehensive view of the requirements of academic writing and of how to overcome any challenges in the process of writing from starting to completing an academic text.

The second part will take place in the mornings of 17-20 June, 2026, and covers how to properly present an argument in a paragraph, how to formulate effective sentences, and how to revise a draft manuscript for publication. The second part also offers the possibility to discuss a small part of your text (which is entirely optional, though).

After completing the course, participants are also given the option of an individual online feedback session of about an hour with the course instructor.
