Usabilty Engineering & Testing
To ensure an optimal Usability, the continuous and early integration of user feedback into the product development cycle is essential. Nowadays, a variety of usability (evaluation) methods and measures is available for each stage of development. The course will present and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the most common methods with the focus set on empirical quantitative measures and methods.
Students will learn how to set up and run a user study, this includes the selection of the test setting (field vs. lab. vs. remote/online), the recruitment and classification of users, the construction and validation of quantitative questionnaires, the basic concepts of experimental test design and inference statistics.
The course will also discuss how quantitative Usability methods can be applied in industry settings, particularly in agile development processes.
The course aims to enable students to make informed decisions on usability (evaluation) methods. They should be able to plan and conduct own user studies and analyze the resulting data. |
