Art-Market-Mechanism-Self Promoting
Workshop and excursion for students at Bauhaus University
The workshop will be held in german and english language, it's goals are:
Becoming a professional artist in regard to cultural activities, art market, creative industries
(foreign students are very welcome)
The topics are:
Who transforms art into business? Who is setting the rules? Artistst, gallerist, curators?
What is their roll in the inernational art scene? How strong is the influence of the so called "art mafia"? How important is to live and work in bigger cities? Are there special opportunities for artists in provincial towns and regions? What are the possibilities of direct marketing as an artist?
How to establish networks and build contacts to galleries and collectors?
These questions make the focus of the workshop in combination with gallery visits
and meetings with key players of the Berlin art scene, who are connected to the
international art world - in Berlin-Mitte, Gallery District (Checkpoint Charlie area), the new art quarter around Potsdamer Straße. In addition to the above visits to off galleries and non profit project spaces are also planned.
Excursion in Berlin: November 17th - 19th 2016 (daily 1 to 6 pm)

Toni Wirthmüller lives in Berlin working as visual artist (painting, photography, installation, performance). He studied at the University of Arts (UdK) Berlin, his works have been exhibited at many different places in Germany and abroad.
Wirthmüller taught painting at the UdK Berlin, he also worked as a lecturer at the Facultat de Bellas Artes Barcelona and at the Bauhaus University Weimar, recently he startet to give workshops at the Academy of Painting Berlin.
For some years he has been running an agency called Art-Escort-Berlin (together with the journalist
and writer Norbert Kron) offering individual guides through the Berlin art scene - with special
insider informations and contacts, which will also be very interesting for the above mentioned workshop. |
