The research project VertiKKA<\/a> <\/span>\u201cVertikale KlimaKl\u00e4rAnlage zur Steigerung der Ressourceneffizienz und Lebensqualit\u00e4t in urbanen R\u00e4umen\u201d aims to develop an innovative technological approach to increase urban energy, land and resource efficiency, local quality of life, and climate protection.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

With the constant growth of built areas in urban spaces, an increased demand for infrastructure and organization is emerging. This can hardly be met in many areas that have a high population density in Germany. Climate change, urban heat island effect, increasing demand for cooling energy, deterioration of air quality, noise pollution, and declining biodiversity are posing an additional challenge. The focus of VertiKKA is on the conception and prototypical implementation of low-maintenance, self-regulating green fa\u00e7ade modules with integrated photovoltaic elements. These greening elements are designated for greywater treatment, which is to be used for irrigation.<\/em>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The\u00a0Urban Design Hackathon<\/a><\/span> is a 24h online workshop for international students from European architecture schools.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Over its past three editions, we tested and successfully established a new format of digital teaching and international collaboration \u2013 despite the pandemic and without environmentally harmful air miles. Supported by technically advanced tools, the virtual room became a common ground for learning and intercultural exchange for students and academics from ten institutions across Europe.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>

We invite students to develop future scenarios for obsolete structures in the urban environment. It is a novel approach, where the ugly and outdated are not simply erased but valued for their grey energy and embraced as catalysts of a resilient and sustainable further development of our cities.\u00a0

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn this <\/span>planning<\/span> laboratory<\/span><\/span><\/a> students developed <\/span>exemplary<\/span> strategies<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span> u<\/span>rban<\/span>, <\/span>lively<\/span> and<\/span> sustainable<\/span> residential<\/span> districts<\/span> for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>agricultural<\/span> areas<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> outskirts<\/span> of<\/span> Berlin<\/span>. The<\/span> challenge<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> competition<\/span> was to<\/span> develop<\/span> solutions<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> form<\/span> of<\/span> so-called<\/span> \u201cpuzzles\u201d<\/span> for<\/span> suitable<\/span> structural<\/span> typologies<\/span> in<\/span> an<\/span> abstract<\/span> context<\/span> on<\/span> a<\/span> sample<\/span> plot<\/span>, in<\/span> combination<\/span> with<\/span> contemporary<\/span> development<\/span> and<\/span> mobility<\/span> concepts<\/span> as<\/span> well<\/span> as<\/span> high-quality<\/span> open<\/span> spaces<\/span>.<\/span><\/em>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
