Practices and Politics of Representation
This online project is an experiment in establishing a slower, more reflective, and collaborative digital environment — a discursive, educational space that encourages deep engagement and contributions. It serves as a living archive where students, researchers, and invited contributors can publish, edit, and maintain content, reflections, project documentation, and references related to art, architecture, and media studies.
Participation is structured through user registration and role assignments (admin, editor, contributor). The platform reflects the evolving nature of our courses and research, offering an alternative mode of producing and sharing knowledge that prioritizes depth over speed, collaboration over competition, and reflection over reaction.
This website is run by the Professorship for Practices and Politics of Representation at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, led by Prof. Dr. Mona Mahall. The professorship explores how representation shapes our understanding of space, society, and culture through critical engagement with visual, spatial, and media practices.
Our work investigates the political dimensions of representation in architecture, urban planning, and media, questioning how images, drawings, models, and digital tools influence the way we perceive and construct reality. Through teaching, research, and collaborative projects, we examine the power structures embedded in representational practices and develop alternative approaches to visual and spatial communication.
