Urban Sketching Weimar

“Urban sketching” is a very popular artistic movement in which anyone can participate. We will closely observe and sketch in the urban space of Weimar. The course serves to deepen the perception of lively situations in Weimar and to learn creative drawing skills. We will observe everyday situations in which common spaces are created between different groups of people. We will visit various places in Weimar and make quick sketches. The morning market bustle in front of the town hall, people meeting on Herderplatz or Theaterplatz are interesting places to observe. The aim is to train and sensitise the eye and hand, deepen perception and creatively translate it into spatial sketches and notations. There are no mistakes, only your own individual handwriting and different stylistic devices. The choice of suitable analogue tools such as pencil, ink pen, marker, chalk, brush and sketchbook or digital tools such as the tablet is aimed at graphic and colourful expression, with which tension, contrast and emphasis can be placed in the drawing. After a theoretical and practical introduction, we will sketch spatial situations, buildings, people and everyday activities that reflect the attitude to life in Weimar. We will get to know Weimar from different perspectives, with numerous details and visual stories. Each exercise unit is guided by task sheets and commented on in case of questions. The task sheets are published in the Moodle room. At the end of the course, the personal sketchbook (min. A4) is handed in and selected works are digitised and uploaded to Moodle. The assessment is differentiated according to the degree programme with a certificate or grade. The requirements for Master's students are adapted. Regular attendance is required for successful completion of the programme.
