PERSONAL PROJEKT

Idee

Ich möchte mich mit der visuellen Struktur des Schleimpilzes in Form von experimenteller Fotografie auseinandersetzen.

Dabei geht es nicht nur um die Gestalt des Myzels*, sondern auch um die Umgebung, die er durch sein Dasein verändert. Eine Beobachtung von symbiotischer, sich gegenseitig bedingender Lebensformen und Lebensräume.

Umsetzung

Ich werde das Physarum auf der Gelantineschicht eines Negativfilms wachsen lassen. Die Filmgelantine ersetzt damit das Agar Agar und bietet dem Physarum einen Boden zum Wachsen. Erste Tests haben ergeben, dass dadurch die Gelantineschicht verändert, teils aufgelöst, farblich beeinflusst wird und mit der Struktur des Myzels verschwimmt. Ein neues visuelles Bild des Physarum entsteht – seine Interaktion mit der Umwelt in abstrakte Bilder übersetzt. Ich möchte experimentieren mit bereits entwickeltem Film, Fotopapier und unbelichtetem Film (welcher nach der Impfung mit Physarum entwickelt wird). Im Nachhinein wird das Bild durch ein Scanverfahren sichtbar gemacht.

Poetische Spuren

In der Interpretation der Bilder geht es mir nicht um ein Verstehen oder eine Aneignung des Physarum in wissenschaftlichem Sinn. Mich beschäftigen vielmehr poetische und philosophische Fragen, die bei Betrachtung der Bilder entstehen. Er dient mir als Symbol von Leben, Systemen, Wachstum, Organismen und Beziehungen in Bezug auf mein eigenes Leben und die Wahrnehmung meiner, bzw. menschlicher Gefühle und Handlungen.

Zusammenführung

Um die Bilder und meine Gedanken am Ende zusammenzubringen, kann ich mir vorstellen entweder ein Buch, Zine oder ein digitales Dokument zu verwenden oder einen Kurzfilm in Form von fotografischen Aneinanderreihungen (siehe Fotofilm) mit Vertonung zu machen. Dies ist dann der zweite Teil des Projektes und wird von mir nach dem ersten Teil – dem Erzeugen des Bildmaterials und dem Notieren meiner persönlichen Gedanken dazu – konkretisiert./ english version

Idea

I want to deal with the structure of the slime mold in a visual way by working with experimental photography. But not only the structure of the Physarum, moreover the whole environment is interesting for me. How both influence and change each other – the living space and the living form.

Implementation

I will let the Physarum grow on the gelatin layer of a negative film. The film gelatin is replacing the agar agar and offers the Physarum a floor for growth. Initial tests have shown that the slime mold changes the gelatin layer, dissolves it partially, changes its color and blurs with the structure of the mycelium*. A new visual picture of the Physarum emerges - its interaction with the environment translated into abstract images. I would like to experiment with already developed film, photo paper and unexposed film (which is developed after the inoculation with Physarum). Afterwards it get´s visible by a scanning process.

Poetic traces

The interpretation of the pictures is not about understanding or appropriating the Physarum in a scientific way. Rather, I am concerned with poetic and philosophical questions that arise when I look at the pictures. It serves as a symbol of life and growth that shows relationships and systems what is giving me hints to my or generally human feelings and actions.

Reunification

In order to bring the pictures and my thoughts together, I can imagine using either a book, zine or digital document or making a short film in the form of a series of photographs (see photo film) with sound pieces. This is then the second part of the project and will be specified by me after the first part - creating the visual material and noting down my personal thoughts.

• da der Physarum kein richtiger Pilz ist, ist Myzel eigentlich das falsche Wort. Ich nutze es hier, um sein Geflecht zu beschreiben, mit dem er sich ausbreitet.

because the physarum is not a real mushroom, mycelium is actually the wrong word. I use it here to describe the structure of the net of the growing physarum.
