This module introduces the use of a DIY biolab and its uses in relation to artistic practices. The module teaches:

  • How to follow safety rules in our lab.

We redesigned most of the lab practices to minimise risks. However everyone need to be aware and respect the lab rules.

  • Preparation of the growth media for the organisms, propagation and how to work with cultures. Examples include Acetobacter, Euglena gracilis, and Physarum polycephalum (Slime mold).
  • Hands-on use of equipment in the bio lab, such as pipettes, clean benches, centrifuges, microscopes and incubators.

The course is mandatory to gain access to the lab for individual work. It will be conducted over two days.
