This course is an introduction to the DIY biolab and its uses in relation to artistic practices. We will learn how to follow safety rules, how to cook media for organisms, and how to care for the various organisms. Organisms presented include Acetobacter bacteria, Euglena gracilis flagellates, and Physarum polycephalum slime molds. The "Driver's license" also includes hands-on use of equipment in the bio lab, such as microliter pipettes, clean benches, centrifuges, and microscopes.

The course will be conducted over two days.
* How to follow safety rules in our lab.
* Preparation of the growth media for the organisms, propagation and how to work with cultures. Examples include Acetobacter, Euglena gracilis, and Physarum polycephalum (Slime mold).
* Hands-on use of equipment in the bio lab, such as pipettes, clean benches, centrifuges, microscopes and incubators.
 
 
The course is mandatory to gain access to the lab for individual work. It will be conducted over two days.
