Project Description

English

How can media be used to reflect upon and influence the identity of a community?

The project 'community.media.identity' focuses on the connections between media, identity, place and community development. During the semester students will be introduced to a range of practices for using media as a critical tool in social/urban practice, focusing especially on documentary film, creating community media workshops and working with online video networks.

The semester will begin with guest talks and workshops from a range of practitioners working in social/medial fields.

After this, students will move into the practical stage of the project, working both in Weimar and abroad to actively develop and apply methodologies for exploring, negotiating and expressing community through video.

This practical stage will include working alongside Dr. Lorenzo Tripodi of urban/medial art research group Ogino Knauss (www.oginoknauss.org). From June 14th to 20th students will travel to Belgrade in Serbia to support Dr. Tripodi in his research for a new experimental video piece he is producing looking at the peripheries of urban space in the city and how residents relate to them. This will be an exceptional opportunity for students to experiment with media in an urban context whilst working with a professional media artist and researcher.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in and develop their own social/medial projects based in Weimar later in the semester, leading eventually to a presentation of works at the 2010 Summary.

Deutsch

I think we all looked already... With one luggege cheked in costs: 136 E There are still places... Starts from Cologne-Bonn

There is a little problem with the train connections... It takes a half day just to get there because we have to change at least twice or even 4 times, and of course it costs some extra... so in this case it would be the best if we could arrange to have the busses from the Uni to take us.

Larissa: Someone said, there is the possibility to take the German Wings ticket. Around 25 €. Is it each way, or back and forth?''

Timi: It's possible... but the fact that there is no good connection doesn't changes... The Uni bus won't be able to take 12 people right? there are 2 busses at least, we took a trip to Halle with them...

The Chilton is a great hostel and it's not really that far from the center. In Belgrade Buses are super cheap and Taxis too (tell them to turn on the meter!) Matthias.breuer 11:15, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Weimar West

Fensterplatz vs. Balkonträume

People from salve.tv were meandering around Weimar West to get access to plattenbau-inhabitants in order to get an impression of their view out of their windows.
"Fensterplatz / Hallo, salve.tv ist da!"

It's pretty odd that a lot of people have a negative image of 'these Weimar West people'.

Weimar West macht sich 'ne Platte

platteniteriors.jpg
My idea for the Weimar West project: I got inspired by "Plattenbau privat-60 Interieurs by Susanne Hopf, Natalja Meier" a photographic work.

I do have a keen interest to see the Weimar West Platte from the inside. How do the inhabitants style their flat? what is their favorite place in their house? How do they like the plattenbau?
Eva

Liebes Weimar West? / Approaching inhabitants

Hello, by walking by this gallery today, I came accross a Plakat concerning the Festival "Platte, Schraube, Fuge - Experimente zwischen Stadt, Körper und Zeit" in the Kolonnadenviertel in Leipzig, and adressing its inhabitants directly... I thought it was an interesting approach. Melissa
