Zusammengeschlossen bilden die Labormodule ein System, mit dem Bilddaten von Wettersatelliten empfangen, dargestellt und weiterverarbeitet werden. Ein Wecker navigiert das BfU durch die Zeit. Der Alarm ertöt zu mathematisch prognostizierten Zeitpunkten, an denen ein Wettersatellit Oldenburg passieren soll. Das Bfu stoppt und beginnt mit der Messung. Fotografisch wird der durch die Architektur definierte Horizont gescannt, der die Dauer des Satellitenempfangs bestimmt. Dann verbinden die Mitarbeiter des Büros die Labore und empfangen live gesendete Satellitenbilder. Das Radiosignal des Satelliten wird aufgenommen, am Computer decodiert und als Bild dargestellt. Diese Messdaten werden vor Ort ausgedruckt, mit Gelatine auf der Straße archiviert und mit Kreide um weitere Informationen zur Messung ergänzt. Zusätzlich wird ein Logfile zu der durchgeführten Messung über Mikrofon eingesprochen. Die digital gespeicherten Daten werden am Ende des Tages in das im Austellunsraum installierte Metaarchiv integriert.
