====English description====
Diatoms 09. Special exhibition.

As an interdisciplinary team of media artists, product designers and architects, we conceptualise and design a special exhibition for the Phyletic Museum Jena. Practical experience guaranteed: The exhibition opens October 2009.

Taking off from the core issue, the "constructive understanding" of diatoms (single-celled algae), we display the interrelation and adaption of those ideas in the fields of art, history of technology, cultural history and architecture (i.e. German architect Frei Otto's Lightweight Structures and current research).

The aim is to develop intelligent 2D and 3D models, installations, elements of a multimedia scenography, exhibition architecture and graphic design. Within each of the covered topics, "applied" implementation as well as a more "abstract" interpretation is possible.

Qualification:
- Readiness to look into natural scientific, art, design and architectural history and museological discourse as well as into contemporary ways of their (museum) display.
- Proficiency in dealing with your respective artistic medium / techniques.

Assessment:
- Conception and realisation of exhibition elements (see above) either alone or as part of a workgroup.
- Execution/coordination/supervision of the installation at the museum.
- Documentation of your respective work.

The exhibition will run for approx. 5 months in Jena and then tour internationally.

Project partners are the Phyletic Museum Jena, the Zoological Museum Hamburg & the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research Bremerhaven.

====Kursinhalte====
Als interdisziplinäres Team aus Medien-, Produktgestaltern und Architekten konzipieren und gestalten wir eine große Sonderausstellung für das Phyletische Museum Jena. Praxiserfahrung garantiert: Eröffnung Oktober 2009!

Im Zentrum der Ausstellung steht das "konstruktive Verstehen" von Diatomeen (einzelligen Kieselalgen). Davon ausgehend -- und weitaus spannender -- zeigen wir die Adaptionen und Zusammenhänge mit Kunst-, Kultur- & Technikgeschichte, und der Wirkungen auf die Architektur (z.B. Frei Ottos Flächentragwerke und aktuelle Forschungen).

Im Projekt werden intelligente zwei- & dreidimensionale Modelle, Installationen, multimediale Szenographie, Ausstellungsarchitektur und -grafik entwickelt. In den jeweiligen Themenkomplexen können sowohl "angewandte" als auch freie künstlerische Arbeiten realisiert werden.

Die Ausstellung wird ca. 5 Monate in Jena zu sehen sein und tourt im folgenden Jahr voraussichtlich international.

Projektpartner sind das Phyletische Museum Jena, das Zoologische Museum Hamburg & das Alfred-Wegener-Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung Bremerhaven.

- Konzeption & und "produktreife" Umsetzung von Ausstellungsinhalten (siehe oben) als Einzel- oder Gruppenarbeit.
- Durchführung/Betreuung/Koordination der Installation vor Ort.
- Dokumentation der geleisteten Projektarbeit.
