Concept (English):

The project "Voladores" is a visual and acoustic experience of space. It was realized in Unity 3D and offers the possibility to take the view of the fifth Volador, who stays on top of the Palo Volador. You are standing on the pole in dizzy heights and are exposed to the extreme altitude. Flying by flock of birds, a church, woodland
and mountain chains intensify the feeling of height. From below you can hear the church bells ringing and villagers. On the top of the pole the wind whistles and one or two birds might come closer than you would have wished. In order to get an understanding of what the other four Voladores are experiencing, the ritual is shown on a video wall and explained by a narrator.

Konzept (Deutsch):

Das Projekt "Voladores" ist eine visuelle und akustische Raumerfahrung. Es wurde in Unity 3D realisiert und bietet die Möglichkeit die Sichtweise des fünften Voladors einzunehmen, der auf dem Palo Volador verweilt. Man selbst steht also auf dem Pfahl in luftigen Höhen und ist der extremen Höhe ausgesetzt. Vorbeifliegende Vögelschwärme, eine Kirche, Waldgebiete und Bergketten sind dabei Relationsgrößen und verstärken das Höhenempfinden. Auch auf einer akustischen Ebene wird der Raum erfahrbar gemacht. Von unten hört man die Kirchenglocken läuten und kann dem Dorfgeschehen zuhören. Oben auf dem Pfahl pfeift der Wind und der ein oder andere Vogel kommt einem vielleicht doch näher als gewünscht. Um ein Verständnis davon zu bekommen was die anderen vier Voladores erleben, wird auf einer Videowand das Ritual gezeigt und mit einem Sprechtext begleitet.

Während des Rituals klettern fünf Männer einen Mast von 30 Metern hoch - dem "Palo Volador". Oben angekommen binden sich vier Männer an Seile und lassen sich kopfüber herunter hängen. Wie Vögel strecken sie ihre Arme aus. Der Flug beginnt. Bevor sie wieder den Boden berühren, werden sie dreizehn Mal um den Palo Volador gekreist sein. Der fünfte Mann verweilt oben und repräsentiert die Sonne. Ohne jegliche Sicherung tanzt und musiziert er als Schutzritual. Die Zeremonie wurde von der UNESCO zum immateriellen Kulturerbe ernannt."''
