New page

Synthetic Biology is an exciting new field for artistic endeavor.

It sets out for designing and building biological functions and systems on a cellular level. Such engineered live forms are already capable of detecting land mines in the ground and colorizing the surrounding soil. They can take on the functioning of a human kidney and metabolize waste into fuel.

Synthetic Biology has the potential to change the medical and technological landscape drastically in the near future.

The project offers the possibility to develop your artistic or design perspective on the matter as the fundamental manipulation or even recreation of life poses numerous social, philosophical and artistic questions.

The project will be run in collaboration with the iGEM Team of the University of Heidelberg.
